Idea Container

In partnership with Fayetteville Public Library, we have paired up with Kids Create for our newest #ArtFeedsMakes! Join us in reading one of our favorite books and learn how to be brave with your big ideas. You can see more coming this summer by visiting faylib.org/calendar 

 

There are two options to completing this project, either as a container using Salt-Dough Clay or a container using Paper and a Tin Can. Here's the supplies for both:

 

Salt Dough Idea Container: 

Note: this list includes affiliate links

- 2 Cups flour

- 1 Cup Salt

- 1 Cup Water

Spoon/Spatula

Bowl

Parchment Paper

Tin Can or rinsed out canned vegetables/ beans

- Oven and baking pan

Watercolors

Yellow Paper

Scissors

Glue

 

Paper and Tin Can Idea Container:

White Paper

Yellow Paper

Drawing Utensil

Glue

Scissors

Colored Pencils

 

Here are the instructions for both:

Salt Dough Idea Container:

Step 1: Preheat oven to 200 degrees

Step 2: Mix flour, salt, and water in a large bowl

Step 3: Lay down parchment paper to catch messes as you spread the salt dough around a tin can

Step 4: Place upright in a baking pan and bake for 2 hours

Step 5: Once cooled, paint with watercolors

Step 6: Cut a crown out of yellow paper and glue it to your container

 

Paper and Tin Can Idea Container:

Step 1: Cut out white paper to glue around your tin can

Step 2: Color with colored pencils

Step 3: Cut a crown out of yellow paper and glue it around your container
